Merle Banwart

Funeral service for Merle Banwart, 90, formerly of Anoka, took place Dec. 22 in Dixon, Calif.

Banwart died Dec. 14. He was born Dec. 23, 1920 in Whittimore, Iowa, to Matt and Mary Banwart and he was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; children, Marlene Alonzo (Donnie), Mark (Cindy); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother, Milford (Lucille); and sisters, Margaret Lund Holmes, Matilda Lindberg and Marcella (John) Russef.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Merlyn; and brother, Melvin.

Interment was at Dixon National Cemetery.

Beverly Berry

Funeral service for Beverly J. Berry, 74, Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 20 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Easy Bethel.

Berry grew up in Fargo, N.D., raised her family in Fridley and had a career with Mary Kay.

She is survived by her husband, Don; son, Steve; daughter, Jana (Jim) Woody; grandson, Ricc (Jennifer) Woody; great-grandchildren, Jeramiah, Heaven, Tristan, Shala; brother, Warren Schiebold; sisters, Karen Schiff and Marion Groseth; sister-in-law, Darline Bjornson; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Brent; and parents. Karl and Margaret Schiebold.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Vincent Bernard

Funeral service for Vincent A. Bernard, 90, Rosholt, S.D., took place Dec. 18 at Ave Maria Catholic Church, Wheaton. Rev Joe Vandeberg officiated.

Bernard died Dec. 15 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, N.D. He was born Aug. 19, 1920 in Tyler, N.D., to Adolph and Caroline Bernard.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Betty) of Evans, Ga., RoseMary (Dale) Kangas of Eveleth, Bernadette (Roger) Showers of Allegan, Mich., Lucy (Arnold) Zahnow of Hoyt Lakes, MaDonna (Dennis) Carlson of Campbell, Angie Granberg of Wheaton, Daniel (Lynn) Bernard of Oak Grove, William (Laurie) Bernard of St. Francis; daughter-in-law, Linda Haine of Amenia, N.D.; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angeline Wieser of Rosholt, S.D., Marcella German of Hankinson, N.D., Marian (Aly) Zach of Wahpeton, N.D., Margaret Schiltz of Hankinson, N.D., Teresa Schiltz of Rosholt, S.D., Julia (Clyde) Klosterman of Mooreton, N.D.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Rosella Bernard, the mother of his children, and Helen (Georges) Bernard; brothers, Kenneth Bernard and Dennis Bernard; sisters, Doretta Zach and Valaria Brandenburger; and son, Edward Bernard.

Interment was at Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Arrangements were by Ranney Funeral Home, Wheaton.

Paul Bertelson

Funeral service for Paul W. Bertelson, 68, Blaine, took place Dec. 22 at Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids. Rev. Alex Carlson officiated.

Bertelson died Dec. 16 in Coon Rapids. He was born Oct. 6, 1942 in Fergus Falls to Raymon Bertelson and Helen Wolpert and was a civil engineer for Anoka County.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and family and friends.

Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.

Marilyn Boege

Visitation for Marilyn R. Boege, 71, Spring Lake Park, took place Dec. 17 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde; children, Joe, Peter (Kim), Mark (Margaret), Lynn Boege; grandchildren, Joey, Kelly, Kyle, Jill, Mitchell, Grant, and great-grandson, Caleb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose; and sisters, Gail and Joan.

Linda Butzlaff

Funeral service for Linda C. Butzlaff, 50, Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 19 at Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids.

Butzlaff died unexpectedly Dec. 16.

She is survived by her mother, Elaine; sisters, Debbie (Jim) Gorichanaz and Cindy Bungert; brothers, Dennis and Jeffrey (Lisa); nieces and nephews, Michelle, Amy, Carrie, Scott, Charlie, Heather, Laura, Holly, Andrew, Hannah, Hayden and Luke; grandnieces and grandnephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond; and nephew, Joey.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Beverly Carlson

Memorial service for Beverly Ann Carlson (Zimbrick), Ramsey, took place Dec. 22 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Carlson died Dec. 12. She was a nurse, working at Anoka State Hospital, Trevilla Nursing Home and Camilia Rose Care Center.

She is survived by her children, Joni (Todd) Nelson, Alan Zimbrick and Randa (John) Prior; grandchildren, Ryan and Greta Nelson and Amanda and Brad Prior; brothers, Dick and Edward Kraft; sister, Betty Hayer; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Carlson; niece, Anne Kraft; mother, Ann Guibord Kraft; and great aunt and uncle, Minnie and John Cody.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Walter Edstadt

Funeral service for Walter Milton Edstadt, 93, Anoka, took place Dec. 22 at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church. Rev. Ronn Johnson officiated.

Edstadt died Dec. 18 at Twin Rivers Care Center, Anoka. He was born June 20, 1917 in Minneapolis to Carl and Alma C. (Anderson) Edstadt and was a retired orderly at Hennepin County Medical Center.

He is survived by his son, Bruce (Cornie); daughter, Carol; grandchildren, Mark, Sean, Nicole, Kim, Sara and Caitlin; several great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; and daughter, Cindy.

Pallbearers were Mark and Sean Roen, Gary Hamilton, Patrick Cleland, Steve Manemann and Jerry Monson. Honorary pallbearers were Art and Lanny Boyd.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover.

Anna Hoppe

Funeral service for Anna M. Hoppe, 80, Blaine, took place Dec. 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich.

She is survived by her children, Rose Ann Hoppe, Eileen Hoppe, Janet Kordiak, Kenneth Hoppe; grandchildren, Uriah Hedum, Joshua Hedum; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Rachel, Sarah, Ariel, Ethan; siblings, Elizabeth Henmmesch; and nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome.

Loretta Listerud

Funeral service for Loretta E. Listerud, nee Gunion, 82, Fridley, took place Dec. 16 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Gregory Abbott officiated.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Monson, Joan (John) Evans, Jean (Ron) Michaels, Randy (Jean) Monson; many grandchildren and great -grandchildren; siblings, Darlene Peters, Darold Gunion; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; son, Donald Monson; and mother, Henrietta Villano.

Pallbearers were grandchildren Russ, Christie and Jeanie Evans, David, Jeff and Kevin Krelic and Lori, Don, Andy and Tami Monson.

Interment was at Oakland Cemetery, St. Paul. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Blaine.

Joyce McNeil

Funeral service for Joyce Ethel McNeil, 84, Anoka, took place Dec. 16 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Joan Bednarczyk officiated.

McNeil died Dec. 13 at Wellstead of Rogers. She was born March 27, 1926 in Duluth to Roy and Ethel (Johnson) Gamache and was a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by her daughters, Annette (Jeri) Oman and Carol (Quentin) Gmach; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Louanna Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Susan Miller

Funeral service for Susan K. Miller, 65, Andover, took place Dec. 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Francis. Rev. Timothy Vaughan officiated.

Miller died Dec. 11 at Elim Care Center, Fargo, N.D. She was born June 16, 1945 in Cloquet to Walter and Harriet (Vanderlinden) Gran and was a retired first-grade teacher at East Bethel Community School.

She is survived by her daughter, Kara (John) Burt; granddaughter, Josephine; siblings, Dick Gran, John (Janice) Gran and Pat (Monte) Fjosne; sister-in-law, Gloria Gran; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn.

Pallbearers were Rick, Isaac and John Gran, Jeff Fjosne, Jerry Herman and Jeff Rockow.

Interment was private at West Branch Cemetery, Kalevala Township. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Adrienne Pederson

Funeral service for Adrienne C. Pederson (nee Kube), 35, Ramsey, took place Dec. 22 at St. St Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka.

Pederson died Dec. 18. She was born Dec. 25, 1974.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; sons, Brandon Kube, Zachary Pederson; father, Kerry Kube; siblings, Merideth Kube and Joseph Kube; father-in law, William Pederson; mother-in-law, Susan (Arthur) Hellmann; sister-in-law, Deanna (Mick) Hawkins; and nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Kube; and brother, Damian Kube.

Robert Reichardt

Funeral service for Robert Wayne Reichardt, 74, Anoka, will take place at a later date.

Reichardt died Dec. 9 at Mercy Hospital. He was born March 3, 1936 in Wauwautosa, Wis., to Elmer Odeen and Marie Agnes Vollmer and was a retired paving blacktopper.

He is survived by her wife, Dee; daughter, Debbie Carithers of Black River Falls, Wis.; sons, Scott (Clarise) of Hanover and Ryan Reichardt of Ramsey; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Fred; mother, Marie Grassel; and stepfathers, Elmer Vollmer and George Grassel.

Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Frank Roden

Funeral service for Frank Ignatius Roden, 91, Ramsey, took place Dec. 19 at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover. Deacon Peter Bednarczyk officiated.

Roden died Dec. 11 at Wellstead of Rogers. He was born April 2, 1919 in Albertville to Vincent Adam and Mary Elizabeth (Barnier) Roden. He was a World War II veteran and a retired District 11 teacher.

He is survived by his children, Marlys (Dale) Rahn, Nancy Anderson, Carol (Jim) Parker, Gail (Larry) Trushenski, Roger (Katherine) Roden; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; parents; and brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers were Troy and Dale Rahn, Wayne Anderson, Jim Parker and David and Larry Trushenski.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover.

Dorothy Ryden

Funeral service for Dorothy Cecelia Ryden, 95, Champlin, took place Dec. 20 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Rev. Fernando Ortega officiated.

Ryden died Dec. 9 at Ark on the River, Anoka. She was born July 9, 1915 in Swanville to Zachary and Mary (Kulas) Warzecka and was a retired banquet hostess at a Carlson hotel.

She is survived by her son, John; grandchildren, Robert and Annelise Ryden; sisters, Marcy and Joann; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alver; and sister, Delores.

Pallbearers were Mike Halek, Bobby Ryden, Phillip Smith, Gordy Sherman, Chad Felton and Steve Selhrued.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Elery Salisbury

Funeral service for Elery Leroy “Art” Salisbury, 87, New Hope, took place Dec. 20 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Salisbury died Dec. 16.

He is survived by his stepson, Richard (Beth) Nelson Jr.; children, Lynn (Carolyn), Neil, Noel, David (Pat), Ardee (Jim) Rosencrantz, Alan and Lori (Ron) Mueller; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; stepbrother, Floyd (Irene) Johnson; halfbrother, Herb Johnson; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ellen; son, Lee; eight brothers; and five sisters.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

George Smith

Funeral service for George Phillip Smith, 84, rural Parkers Prairie, formerly of Coon Rapids, took place Dec. 21 at First Baptist Church of Parkers Prairie. Rev. Paul Twist officiated.

Smith died Dec. 15. He was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Anoka Township, now Coon Rapids, to George and Irene (Vandecar) Smith. He attended school in what is now Coon Rapids and at the age of 15 he went to Provo, S.D., and worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, then drove truck, hauling freight from Minneapolis to Fargo and Grand Forks, N.D., for many years and also hauled cattle and freight from Aitkin to South St. Paul. He also farmed and raised Hereford cattle for 50 years and he and his wife were foster parents to more than 130 children.  He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Michael of Minneapolis, Philip of Isle, Mark (Barbara) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Steven (Jennifer) of Grimes, Iowa; daughters, Shelly (Mike) Compton of Hollandale and Lisa (Rick) Sicora of Isle; grandchildren, Angie, Allison, Jonathan, Brandy, Christy, Joe, Arianna, Alexa, Abigail, Bethany and Carolynn; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Margie) Smith; sisters, Gladys (Gene) Karpe and Judy (Tom) Crute, all of Anoka; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debbie; brothers, John and Glenn; and sister, Rosemary.

Interment was at Parkers Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements were by Faith and Hope Funeral Home, Fergus Falls

Charlotte Tronson

Funeral service for Charlotte F. Tronson, 86, Zimmerman, took place Dec. 18 at Champlin United Methodist Church. Rev. Roy Vanderwerf officiated.

Tronson died Dec. 9. She was born Dec. 8, 1924 in Minneapolis to Harold Russel and Bernice Gamble and was a retired engineering assembly line worker.

She is survived by her son, Greg (Sandy); daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Lunderborg; grandchildren, Toney, Faith, Chrizzy, Dave, Ali, Bre, Ciara, Andy, Kevin; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Sonny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; son, Ted; daughter, Kate; four sisters; and one brother.

Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.
