Despite a strong come back victory in game one, the Viking volleyball squad (4-5) still lost a 3-1 decision (25-15, 15-25, 18-25, 15-25) to section opponent Elk River (6-5).
Elk River jumped out to a 6-9 lead when the girls rallied back. They went on a 16-2 run before finally putting the Elks out 25-15. From there they couldn’t match the determination and aggression the Elks squad showed.
“They are lacking that aggression. They are still playing timid… Seems like they are waiting for the other team to do something and reacting,” said Francis.
It started a very tough week on the wrong foot. As the girls are also were set to play NSC rivals Totino-Grace, and Fridley this week, they end the week with a long road trip to Duluth for what coach Kari Francis called, “the strongest tournament of the year”.
The volleyball team’s next home game is Thursday, Oct 8 at 7 p.m. versus Chisago Lakes.
