Despite their losses last week, coach Tom McLaughlin said, “A couple
of shots dropping in here or there and we would have won the match. I
felt it was that close.” Dropping two decisions last week to NSC rivals Totino-Grace (2-5) and
Robbinsdale Cooper (3-4) the North Branch girls picked up some points that they
haven’t seen in a while.

At Totino-Grace, Kelcee Archer continued her winning streak going 6-1, 6-4.
McLaughlin said, “she has been our steadiest single player. Kelcee uses all the parts of her game with equal effectiveness. She doesn’t have any great weapons or strengths that she can rely on to win points, but she doesn’t have any great weaknesses. She is a very balanced player.”
Second doubles was the other point for North Branch.
McLaughlin said, “Emily Ziegler and Katherine Helbig have played nearly everyone close but have been unable to pick up wins. Today they won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3”
Against the Cooper Hawks, Kelcee Archer moved up to third singles and won easily 6-0, 6-0. Brittany Moore moved down to fourth singles and still won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. First doubles Quiana Quam and Katie Munns won another three set match 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
It was Sept 3 in Chisago since the team had picked up more than one point in a match.
Despite the momentum, non-conference opponent Andover was too much to handle for the team, as they shut out the girls in the cold weather Monday.
The girls are set to play Fridley at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.
