After four seasons at the helm of the Princeton football program, head coach Scott Walquist has decided to resign.
In speaking with the Union-Eagle Walquist said it was a personal decision, made in large part with his family in mind. “The kids are getting to an age where I can watch their activities,” Walquist said, adding that sometimes he didn’t see his children at all after a long day of teaching and coaching.
Walquist let his fellow coaches know last week and held a meeting with his players Jan. 26. “It was a tough decision, it took me a month to decide,” he said. “But I don’t think I’m through coaching yet.”
Walquist stated he would be interested in continuing to coach in Princeton in another capacity — if the new coach will have him.
Coming to Princeton in 1999, Walquist worked with the football program for 10 seasons, spending the last four as head coach. During his time at the helm his teams went 5-7, 1-9, 4-6 and 4-5.
A search for a new head football coach began this week.
