Florence Nagel, 89

Florence Nagel, a resident of Little Falls, died Feb. 23, 2005, at the Pierz Villa in Pierz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 26 at the Pierz Villa with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Falls.

Florence was born July 24, 1915, in Lastrup, to the late Hubert and Julia (Gross) Virnig. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Nagel on Oct. 23, 1939, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup. The couple farmed in St. Mathias, until they moved to Little Falls and lived for the past 50 years. Florence was known for her love of flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed baking, cooking and babysitting for relatives and friends. Florence and Bill enjoyed traveling around the United States and Germany. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella and volunteered at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls for 25 years. Florence and Bill celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 23, 2004. Florence was a great inspiration to her family and friends and will be sadly missed.

Florence is survived by her loving husband, William “Bill” Nagel of Pierz; sisters, Lorene Waltz of Pierz, Mildred Hoffman and husband Alex and Cora Gruber, all of Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Esther Schlegel.

Honorary casketbearers were Maria Marshik, Kim Ferrel, Marlys and Gloria Ryden, Deloris Rudek and Sandra LeBlanc. Casketbearers were Bob Fischer, Andy Marshik, Tom Smude, Eldon LeBlanc, Scott LeBlanc and Que Ferrel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to: Pierz Villa Nursing Home.
