Cecilia said, “We want to celebrate the store’s 100 year anniversary because it is unusual for a store in a town of this size to still be operating.”

She added, “The annual Freedhem picnic will be held the same day and we hope that after the people attend the picnic that they will stop by. We will have live music by Charles Warnberg and, sandwiches, coffee, rootbeer floats and drawings throughout the afternoon.”

Cecilia is also working on a historical display on the town.

At its height, Freedhem included two churches, a cemetery, a school, a creamery and a general store. The two churches and school are memories of the past. The creamery which was transformed into a locker plant now sits empty and neglected. However the Freedhem General Store continues to serve its customers as it has since it was built in 1902. The store handles groceries, candy, hardware, tools, feed and gas. And best of all for anyone wishing to stop, sit and visit awhile, the bench is in the same spot as it has been since 1915.
