Upsala wins 10th volleyball game by beating Royalton

Upsala won its 10th volleyball game of the season Thursday night, giving the team a season record of 10-1.

The Cardinals were 2-0 on the week.

Upsala 3, Osakis 0
Upsala needed only three games to defeat Osakis Tuesday night 3-0.

The Cardinal won 15-6, 15-4 and 15-3.

“We were trying to pick up the offensive tempo in the second and third games and it worked,” explained Coach Ken Solarz.

The win improves the Cardinal record to 9-1 and 7-0 in the conference.

Kristi Pangrac had 14 kills for Upsala, one tip and three blocks; Jacquie Theisen had six kills and two tips; Amber Schwieters, seven kills and one tip; Pam Tschida, 21 sets and 12-12 from the service line, scoring seven points; Kris Koroll, four sets and 17-18 serving with four aces, scoring 12 points; and Kara Gerads, 6-7 with one ace and five points scored.

Upsala 3, Royalton 0
Upsala held Royalton to five total points Thursday night, winning 15-0, 15-4 and 15-1.

The win put the Cardinals into the double figure win column. The team is now 10-1.

Pangrac had 11 kills and five blocks against Royalton. She was also 8-8 at the service line, scoring six points.

Theisen had four kills and Schwieters had three.

Tschida had 11 sets and was 12-12 at the service line, scoring nine points.

Gerads also served nine points, going 11-12 with a pair of aces. Koroll was 11-12, scoring nine points with two aces.
